#found - Kodachrome Slides, USA Trips 1960 and '87.

Hey guys, here's a new series I'm thinking of introducing - "#found" I was thinking of calling this "I Collect Shit" but I'd hate for that to be misinterpreted. #found is a series I want to start where I just share with you guys the things that I pick up. Saying 'I like antiques' may make me sound boring AF but fuck it (sorry Mum) I love it.

So here's numero uno - 2 trays of Kodachrome Slides. I picked these up last weekend at a local antiques center for £5.00 each so £10.00 for 200 slides. I didn't really get a good look at the slides when I was in the shop but got a pleasant bloody surprise when I got home to see how insane these photos are - clearly taken by a professional with many more skills than I. They range from 1960-87 and show were taken on this family's 'USA trips', there are photographs taken at Yellowstone National Park, Swiftcurrent Lake, The Rockies, Lake Glacier etc etc etc. Just stunning - as you will see below. I have begun the process of digitizing these and am so pleased to be sharing them.

Here's a selection of some that I have digitized - allow your jaw to drop like mine did.

PS. If you too are into buying other peoples trash, lets be friend K?

8 days late. I am usually a late person, in fact the only thing I have ever been early for is my own birth.

Before I start, lets talk about something. Kylie Jenner has come out of the silicon closet. We all knew it was true, we all had our speculations and doubts that them babies were real. We all know that makeup artistry is, yes clever, but not that clever. Also, turns out she doesn't just use Mac Velvet Teddy and Mac Whirl, she uses an array of colours - *sulking, deletes 'Kylie Jenner Lip' blog post* (kidding). I ain't judging and to be fair, her Doc did a bang up job. I doubt anyone is shocked, it's very much like your 18 year old son telling you he's gay while dressed like Daffyd Thomas off of Little Britain. "I know son."

Going to kick it all off with the non-beauty favourite; Prison Break. I get that I am incredibly late to the party and by now all the chips and dip have gone, but I'm here, and I'm partying. There has been a void in my life, a hole in my heart if you will, since Daryl Dixon and The Walking Dead are currently no longer on my TV screen; that hole being a hot, bad boy. Thankfully, Michael Schofield has come to my aid. Just look at him ↑↑↑↑↑↑.  I won't give anything away if you haven't seen it, I just urge you to see it. Teabag is actually the greatest character on TV.

(PS. I have asked George if it's okay for me to fancy Michael Schofield, he said only if he can to.)

Beauty bits now, and I'm gonna talk toothpaste. Hold on to your butts. But seriously, this toothpaste is bae. I have insanely weak teeth, I broke my front right tooth in half, in 2002, on a stick of Black Jack that's how weak my teeth are. So I need all the help I can get. The premise behind Regenerate Toothpaste is that it restores the enamel, it's all very clever and sciency. I see real results with this, my teeth look whiter and more opaque. I will continue to use as my toothpaste forever I imagine. Come at me Black Jacks.

Next up, two bedtime routine products; the first being deep sleep pillow spray by this works, I mentioned this in a New In post and talked about the serious knockout power it has on me. Actually out for the count when I spray this. When they say 'deep sleep' they ain't kidding. Great one for anyone who struggles with sleep issues. Secondly, this has been a part of my nighttime routine for a few months now and wow, wow I love it. Kielh's Midnight Recovery Concentrate is a super elixir in my eyes, it's something I can swear by and be 100% confident in recommending. I've seen a great change in my skin since using this product, it looks more youthful and glowing. Don't pull at your shirt collar at the price either as it will last you AGES. I only need to use 3 drops before bed which is nothing. I predict it'll last me at least a year.

Lastly, a good ol' drugstore favourite of mine that I have been wearing the crap out of in April; Supercat by Soap and Glory. In my opinion, this is one of the best drugstore liquid liners out there. It's cheap; £6.00. It's super pigmented, just look at that swatch. The felt tip makes it easy for even the most unskilled person (me) to create a perfect cat eye and the packaging is just darling. I can't fault it really, it ticks all boxes for me.

What did you love in April? Can you remember that far back, again sorry for the lateness.

Getting Nailed (← LOL) Barry M Sunset Nail Paint & Topcoat

Barry M Sunset Nail Paint & Topcoat

FUN FACT: There is nothing in that mug, I'm lying to you all. I don't actually drink tea or coffee - and yes, the reaction I usually get to that fact is very akin to the reaction Chandler Bing gets when he tells everyone he hates dogs in "The One Where Chandler Doesn't Like Dogs."

Cue obligatory apology for poor nail conditions and lack of nail painting talent - it's very often in life that my fingers are that of a brick layers.

I have no excuses.

Excuse the pun, I made myself laugh. I feel it a great title for a new series of weekly nail looks. However, when featuring other brands, it may not be transitional or as funny as "Getting Nailed by Barry"

So this is the new range from Barry M, a collection of nail paint that - when combined with the Daylight Curing Topcoat - recreate the look and longevity of pro salon gel nails without the use of a UV lamp, magic. The range currently consists of 7 colours - all named after song titles;

Can't Get You Out of My Red.
Do it Like a Nude.
Peach for the Stars. Try saying that without following with 'climb every mountain higher.'
You Drive Me Navy.
Way You Make Me Teal.
I've Been Pinkin'.
Fuchsia Generation.
Clever

I plumped for the colour You Drive Me Navy a stunning rich navy/royal blue shade which I am enamored with - for some reason, this is my first navy nail shade, ever, I don't know why. The instructions instruct you to layer 2 of the Sunset Nail Paint then follow with a layer of the Sunset Topcoat to begin the 'Daylight Curing' process (the 'Chunk from The Goonies' in me can only think of ham when I hear the word 'curing'.) It is such an easy process and they only need to 'cure' (seriously, ham.) for 2-3 minutes in daylight. The formula is great; super smooth, great pigment and apparently will last for up to 10 days - which I haven't had chance to test but will update.

Overall, love this range - looking forward for more colour selection. Now, I need a ham butty.

Barry M Sunset Nail Paint & Topcoat is available from Boots for £4.99.

New In - Feat. Kiehls, Illamasqua and This Works.

I get paid on the 23rd - this happened on the 24th. C'est La Vie. Any of you 90's chicks out there will be - hopefully - Irish dancing around the room with me now after me saying the words "C'est La Vie" instantly took you back to 1998; where you are 8 years old and are pretending that you are the lost fifth member of the smash hit band B*Witched, perfecting your high kicks and Irish accent by repeating the phrase "Some people say I look like me dad." ← (what?...) but getting too tired so you take a "Funny Feet Ice Lolly" break

Anyone?

So, yes, I did done did some shopping. Kielh's firstly; I j'adore (more French, Pas de problème) their Ultra Facial Moisturizer but I have been wearing the version without SPF and since I've started using more chemical exfoliants (see the post about my love for Glycolic Acid here) I need to protect the facial area from the sun so I have added the SPF 30 version to my wardrobe. A few weeks ago, me and Mr Beatnik went to Dublin for his 21st (that's right, I have a toyboy, I'm ballin' over here) and we stayed in The K Club, a golf resort, so while Mr B golfed - I did some serious spa-ing. This included a facial, which involved me getting a slap on the knuckles for not exfoliating around my nose area properly; thus leading to dehydratedness. So I purchased a new facial scrub; Kiehl's Clearly Corrective White Skin Brightening Exfoliator. This contains White Birch, Peony Extract & Ceramides and claims to "improve skin surface texture, illuminate the skin and even skin tone". I really have enjoyed using this so far, every time I use it I get instant satisfaction and results - looking forward to seeing further skin improvements. Kiehl's can do no wrong in my eyes. Big fan.

I was coming to the end of my Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation and I was spending much, much time review reading, researching and window shopping but then I ended up buying this foundation on a complete impulse/whim instead. Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation; this is my first Illamasqua make-up product which is cray-cray because I read nothing but praises all the time about this brand. I use the shade 'Alabaster' in Bobbi Brown foundations (yeah, I am that pale) and the reference guide at Illamasqua suggested a combo of their shades 1 and 2 to match Alabaster - I plumped for shade 2 which has actually turned out to be a touch too pale but I ain't mad because I AM OBSESSED. I have incredibly oily skin in the T-zonal area but here I am sitting 8 hours after application and fully mattified still. A good one for you oily girls, great coverage too. Lastly, this little treat; This Works deep sleep pillow spray this stuff is well renowned around the blogging world and for a very good reason. I have been a log the past week when spraying this before bed, I've had to turn the volume up on my alarm - it's that good. God help me if there's a fire, I am an actual zombie on this.

I'm off now to listen to the complete works of B*Witched on Spotify - sorry not sorry.

The April Music Edit

Oh hey, how you doin'?

I watched A LOT of f.r.i.e.n.d.s this weekend. That's what happens when you have no friends - LOL JKS (maybe..).

It's music time. Here's a playlist of stuff I've been listening to this month including a few artists new to me such as SLK (a London based singer/songwriter not unlike Banks and FKA Twigs, think kinda grimey/a little bit disco/sorta soul/kinda synthpop-y, I'm loving this girls stuff) Portico (another London based band producing electro/ambient offerings, apparently their earlier stuff leans more towards the folk side of things so probably worth checking out. I have been listening to 'Colour Fading' on repeat.) and High Hazels (Clash Music described this band as "Melodic 'The Smiths'" which I nod my head in agreeance with - even though they are an English band, I feel very LA when listening to their stuff.)

I've also included some fave bands of mine The Maccabees, Alt-J, The Vaccines and Palma Violets. The Palma Violets released their first single since 2013 'English Tongue' and if you only listen to one thing from this playlist, make it this. It is insanely catchy.

Please enjoy, share with me any tracks you've been listening to recently that you rate.

For comedic value I almost added 'Smelly Cat' to this playlist - but didn't in the end.

White and Gold Leaf Nails

Hey kids, just thought I'd throw you a quick post today - here it is, you gonna catch it? - just wamted to share the nail look I have been rocking recently.

I picked up L'Oréal Color Riche Nails Topcoat Goldleaf and I am a girl obsessed. The gold leaf nail is so luxe and wearing it unifies my look when I'm wearing a gold watch and a gold necklace. It looks lovely over black but I've been favoring wearing it over Essie Blanc for a clean and minimal look - oh so very spring.

I paint my nails with Essie Blanc - as neatly as I can but usually failing miserably. Most hand-eye coordination tasks are not my forte, apart from rounders, that sh*t was my jam - I then paint the tips of my nails with the L'Oreal Goldleaf Topcoat. The look I'm going for is; I've been diving with Scrooge McDuck in his pool of gold and "dang I've ruined my mani" (this was an actual dream of mine from the other night, if only dreams came true.)

Let me know if you like this look - now cue Peter Griffin diving in Scrooge McDuck's pool of gold GIF.

I've had caffeine today.

Being a self-proclaimed camera nerd it was only a matter of time before a post about cameras showed up.

Apologies if a Sheldon Cooper-esque character appears during this post. I really get ma geek on with photography. Don’t judge me.

Y'all see that eclipse today? Eclipsin' be bitchin'.

So here's a new feature I'm adding - music mixtapes. This is a collective of tracks I've been listening to recently on repeat. I hope you find something that tickles your pickle. And hey, if you have a band you are into please share it with me, I'm all for expanding my musical horizons. Open my musical mind. And experience musical things.

Enjoy!

P.S. If Grimes doesn't plague your mind - it's a super catchy track - I don't know what will.
