KEEP IT CLASSY

NUDE PERFECTION

Sometimes guys, I just need that fix. And something of the makeup sorts needs to be purchased for relief.

Our local town has one major flaw – this being that to get from the main car park in town (which we all still refer to as ‘Kwiky Car Park’ even though Kwiksave hasn’t been there since 2001) to the town centre you have to (I say ‘have to’, really it saves about 2 minutes) cut through Boots. And as much as I try my hardest not to – I always end up deciding that the best route is of course through the makeup aisles. Obviously.

Last week, I cut through Boots and picked up these 3 in the 3 for 2 offer - that seems to be always on? Much like the DFS sales. Firstly, I felt that I owed it to Maybelline to try another one of their brow products as – for me – their Brow Drama Sculpting Mascara was a major flaccid, flop. So I got the Brow Satin Eyebrow Pencil to try – I’m not sure with this yet, the colour is great so when it applies nicely the colour is perfect and natural (I have the colour Medium Brown). I’ve just been struggling with the consistency of the product I think it’s a little too dry and you almost need to ‘warm it up’ on your hand to get it going. Also, I’ve snapped the end off a few times which is maddeningly frustrating. However, I do like the look once its achieved it is super natural and doesn’t smudge or budge – being a photographer I am a great tester of brow products as anything not up to scratch will smear up my face, due to the rubber eye cups, leaving me looking surprised and/or quizzical.

Color Drama Velvet Lip Pencils. These are what I am excited about. I’ve seen many, many swatches on the blogosphere and for why have I only just picked these up? They’re so, so great. The formula is lovely and wearable – however these two differ slightly in formula.  I got the colours ‘Nude Perfection’ which is a very 90’s inspired nude and ‘Keep It Classy’ a muted pinky-plum. I love these lip pencils, they are so easy to use and have great colour payoff. They are not quite matte – and I’d say ‘Nude Perfection’ is slightly mattier (word?) than ‘Keep It Classy’ which has a slightly frostier finish. Maybelline have, I think it’s 9? Colours in this range and at £4.99 they are super affordable and a great alternative (some would say dupe) to the Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencils.

Brava, Maybelline.

  3. It's so disappointing that the brow pencil didn't work out! I've been looking for a brow pencil that is as good (in quality and value) as MAC's brow pencil. That's a remarkable find though with the lip pencils! I'm all about a good pigmented lipstick!
